Fri. 12/10/21 – By now almost everyone who pays any attention to the national news has heard the Jussie Smollett was found guilty of five felonies related to the hoax he perpetrated on Jan. 29, 2019. A jury found his story about being attacked by a couple of Trump supporters, while walking home from a Subway sandwich shop, in bitterly cold weather, at 2:00 in the morning was not credible. Now it is up to the judge to determine what his sentence will be. The maximum for each of his five offenses is three years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
Theoretically, this miscreant could spend fifteen years behind bars and pay $125,000. I think that would be great, but so-called legal experts think it is unlikely he will serve any time in person, but I think there is very good reason why he should.
Jussie apparently wanted to take the stand at his trial and tell his story. I’ll bet his attorney advised against that, but it happened. Obviously the jury didn’t believe his version of the events that took place because, not only was his story unbelievably bizarre, but the prosecution had a mountain of evidence refuting his fairytale.
So he must have been lying. In a courtroom that is called perjury and is also a felony. I don’t know what the penalty is for perjury is in Chicago, but I suspect it is more than the penalties for Jussie’s other felonious infractions. The FBI and the federal courts certainly think perjury is a very serious matter. Consider people like Martha Stewart, Scooter Libby, Gen. Michael Flynn, and many others who were incarcerated for lying to the FBI, but we’re never indicted or convicted of any other crime.
I think that anyone who is clearly lying while on the witness stand in a courtroom should be jailed and or fined for perjury, especially in a case like this. We need justice for Jussie – throw his sorry ass in jail.
Rush was right!
